Rest & Revive
Design Statement:
1 in 4 students will experience a mental illness with the majority being women. The intention of this project is to create a safe space for female students who are suffering from mental illnesses to go to and relax, study and socialise. The inclusion of sensory experiences throughout the space helps create a sense of phenomenology which connects the person to the space. Some important aspects of the designs includes inclusivity as well as its sustainable material considerations. The space has been designed with the use of Australian Standards as guidelines to create an inclusive space that everyone can use.

Biophilic elements throughout the space can be seen through plants, materials, colour and atmosphere. These elements used within the space help to create a calming and relaxing space as well as improving people's mental health through the connection to nature. The space will encourage socialisation between people through the ‘loud’ spaces as well as individual reflection through study or mindfulness activities. The space considers the wants and needs of the target audience through the flexibility of the space. Through choice, people are able to use the space for whatever they need whether it be a safe space, a quiet study area, a space to relax or even to socialise with friends.
